Margate City real estate is one of New Jersey's popular seashore resorts and a charming year-round residential community. It's located in Atlantic County, just 10 minutes south of America's Playground, Atlantic City.
Margate is nestled on Absecon Island between the municipalities of Ventnor and Longport and 10 minutes from the popular summer community of Ocean City.
Originally part of Egg Harbor Township, it was called South Atlantic City, from Washington Avenue to Jackson Avenue, the ocean to the bay. It broke from Egg Harbor Township in 1885 as the Borough of South Atlantic City, and in 1897 changed its name to the City of South Atlantic City. In 1909, the name was changed to Margate City. Margate, literally meaning "Gateway to the Sea" honors Great Britain's venerable seaside resort of the same name.
Margate City is both a great vacation community with a wonderful year-round residential community. Approximately 50% of the people who own homes in Margate live here full-time. The City of Margate School District is a Type I District providing a full range of educational services appropriate to kindergarten through eighth in the adjoining Borough of Longport and the City of Margate, along with special programs for handicapped youngsters. The three public schools in Margate are Union Avenue school (grades K- 2), William H. Ross School (grades 3 - 5), and Tighe Middle School. There are also a number of private educational options available for Margate and neighboring residents.
In the summer months, the population in Margate grows. Unlike other shore communities with "weekly rentals," Margate's summer visitors come here for a minimum of one month, and many rent for the whole season, making Margate their "home" for the summer. There are plenty of camps available and also educational/recreational programs offered by the City of Margate, Longport, and Ventnor.
Whether you are looking to make Margate your "home" for the summer or all-year round, please feel free to contact me. I have four children in four different schools in Margate, so I am pretty well "educated" on activities and educational programs available to children in this area. Call me if you want to learn about the opportunities available here for you and your family.
